Bhajan Lal is a pioneer among defectors. In 1979, he broke away from Devi Lal’s party and toppled the government. With 46 MLAs, he helped the Congress wrest power in Haryana. Needless to say, he was rewarded with the post of CM. Subsequently, Bhajan Lal went on to hold ministerial berths in the Union Cabinet. As his sway over Haryana politics threatened to undermine Jat dominance, leaders like Kiran Chaudhary and Bhupinder Hooda ganged up against him. The former CM and his son, Kuldeep Boshnoi, were expelled from the party. As Haryana gears up for another election, the wily old fox is all set for a final throw of the dice.
